Permits

 

Permit applications require 2 physical copies of a site and a floor plan.  (If your property is located on the list of flood-prone properties provided on this page, your application will require a full set of digital plans in addition to 2 physical copies of a site and floor plan). 

New construction or alterations, expansions, and modifications to existing structures within flood-prone properties are also required to submit an Elevation Certificate. 

Applications can be submitted via email or in personSite and floor plans must be submitted either in person or via mail/shipping.  All plans must be drawn to scale, where a ¼ inch equals one foot.

All commercial properties require a licensed contractor/structural engineer.  All contractors, regardless of whether the property is residential or commercial, must be licensed within the City of South Tucson.

The City of South Tucson has adopted the 2012 IBC, 2012 IRC, 2012 Maintenance Code and the 2011 NEC.

Permit pricing is dependent on the valuation of proposed permit activity.

Please allow a minimum of one week for permit review and processing.

There are currently vacancies on the Planning & Zoning Commission and Board of Adjustment.  All applicants must either be residents of the City of South Tucson or businesspersons within the City and shall serve without compensation.  No member of the Board of Adjustment or the Planning & Zoning Commission shall hold any City, County, or State elective office.  Applications can be found below on this page.

Planning and Zoning

The Planning & Zoning Department is responsible for providing support to the community by interpreting and implementing the General Plan, Zoning Ordinance, land use, and development regulations & Standards as adopted by the City Council.  The Planning, Zoning and Development Services Department reviews all building plans, business license applications, development plans for building and zoning compliance. The Development Services Division reviews and  conducts all inspections related to construction and enforcement within the City. We assist the public and applicants in preparing submittals and answer questions about code compliance.

City Boundaries

Are you located within the City of South Tucson?  The City of South Tucson, also called “The Pueblo within a City” is only one square mile.  See below for City boundaries.

North- Alley between west 26th/25th Streets, beginning with the 1500 block.

South- I-10 ending with the 3999 block.

East- Railroad tracks beginning with 000 and ending with 699 blocks

West- East side of South 12th Ave, beginning with 000 and ending with 599 blocks.

Flood Control Planning in the City of South Tucson main responsibilities are to advance planning of infrastructure within the City in the event of major rainfall and flooding. This includes; site selection and implementation of Flood Control projects, planning investigations and planning studies, documenting flood overflows and damages.
